I, like most of my friends, can't get enough of Pinterest. It's funny how an hour at the end of a work day just won't seem to pass, but put me on pinterest, and I lose an hour *snap* like that. In searching for crafts for Valentine's Day, I came across a heart shaped wreath that looked like it was covered in rose petals or something. It was pretty, and I wanted one! So I read how to make it. It seemed simple enough, so off to the craft store I went. It isn't exactly like the original picture, but an hour or so later, the end result was pretty good, I think.
Here's a picture...
Here's a list of items you'll need:
1 styrofoam wreath
Felt circles (the number will depend on the size of your wreath)
Straight pins
Ribbon
Ornament
Hot glue and glue gun
1 felt ring
Here's how I did it...
I used a 10 inch wreath. On that size wreath, I used about 250 felt circles. I wasn't sure how much fabric I would need. I bought 1 yard and had about 1/3 of that left over when I finished.
First, trace your styrofoam onto a piece of felt, and cut out the ring. Set aside for later.
Take a circle and fold it in half. Then, fold it in half again. The piece of felt should be a little triangle now. Put a straight pin through the point on the triangle, and pin into the styrofoam wreath. Keep doing this until the wreath is full. I didn't do the back side. We'll get to that later.
I strung the ornament with matching ribbon, and decided on the length. Put a dot of hot glue on the back of the wreath, and place ornament ribbon. Pin 2 or 3 pins through the ribbon and glue and then place another dot of glue over the pins to make sure they don't pull out.
Decide how long your hanging ribbon needs to be. Put glue down on the styrofoam wreath, place pins through the ribbon and glue, and then place dots of glue over the pins.
Place a fair amount of hot glue all over the back of the wreath. Place the felt ring on the back of the wreath to cover the empty styrofoam, and where the ribbons are attached.
And, you're done. That's it. The hardest part is cutting out those circles...gets boring. Totally pleased with the end result.
